Clare boss calls journo a “c***” after storming out of interview

Clare were easily beaten by Down on the weekend at Páirc Chíosóg in Ennis.

The Mournemen were superb in their opening game of the All-Ireland round-robin phase, with the game finishing 3-27 to 1-16 in their favour.

It was the Banner’s second defeat in a row, following their heavy loss to Kerry in the final of the Munster SFC, and it was the second big defeat to Down in the last two seasons, after their 11-point loss in last year’s National League.

As reported by the Clare Echo’s Páraic McMahon, manager Peter Keane was in a fiery mood.

After the game he said: “Absolutely it is disappointing, we never got to the pitch of the game particularly early on, we couldn’t get to the pitch of it and then scores start going away from you and you’re scratching all the time then.”

“The Kerry game start was very poor yeah, putting your finger on it, can we improve on it, we’ll go back Wednesday night and see what we can do.

McMahon then asked: “Talking about improvement, do you feel Clare are going backwards under your watch. We would have ran Down to eleven points last year, it is a seventeen point defeat today?”

Keane responded: “Am I suppose Páraic that is maybe an angle you’ve been coming at for a while, just watching what you’ve been saying, I wouldn’t agree with you but that is the way you think about it.”

He then stormed out after their one-minute interview.

McMahon revealed that Keane later returned, asked if the microphones were off, and said to McMahon: “Do you know what, you’re nothing but a c***.”
